Preparing for interview

Preparing for interview is essential to showcase your skills, experience and suitability in the best light. Below are some useful tip to help you prepare

  1. Research the Company – understand the company’s mission, values, product and services, and recent news. Familiarity with the company demonstrates genuine interest and commitment.

  2. Study the Job Description – thoroughly read the job description and identify key responsibilities and skills. Prepare examples from your previous experiences that align with theses requirements.

  3. Know your CV – be prepared to discuss your CV in detail – assume the client hasn’t seen it. Highlight any key skills, experiences and key accomplishments that are relevant to the job you are being interview for.

  4. Know the Industry – ensure you are informed about industry trends, challenges and the companies competitors. This will demonstrate your awareness of the broader context in which the company operates.

  5. Prepare for Common Questions – think about your responses to common interview questions, e.g. “Tell me about yourself”, “Why should we hire you”, “What are your strengths and weaknesses” etc

  6. Prepare for Behaviour Questions – Use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method to structure your responses to theses questions. Provide specific examples of how you handled challenges or achieved success in previous roles.

  7. Check out the Interviewers – if you know the names of the people interviewing you, research their roles and backgrounds – LinkedIn can be a good place to start.

  8. Prepare Questions – don’t be afraid to print off your CV, write down some questions you have prepared, and take with you- it will show how serious you are about the job and that you have prepared.

  9. Consider your Dress Code – first impressions always matter, would recommend you consider appropriate business dress code, which will demonstrate a respect for the interview process and show you are serious about wanting the job.

  10. Plan Your Journey – plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled interview time. If possible do a dummy run the day before to check out parking etc.

 

By taking the time to prepare for your interivew, it will increase your chances of presenting yourself as confident, knowledgeable, and well prepared, which will help make a possitive impression.
