As Optical Instrument Engineer you will be rewarded with a competitive salary, excellent range of benefits and be responsible for:

  • Supporting the manufacturing, assembly and integration of optical instruments and sensors
  • Verification and validation of instruments including functional, performance and environmental tests
  • Design and analyse systems in visible, near and far IR bands
  • Working with mechanical, electrical and systems engineers developing instruments and sensors to produce fully working systems
  • Image analysis
  • Producing documentation relating to designs and testing
  • Working with bespoke and COT's suppliers of optical components and products
  • Work with the Laser Safety Officer to ensure safe conditions in test and manufacturing facilities

To be considered for the Optical Instrument Engineer you will need to:

  • Be educated to BSc or MSc or equivalent in in Physics or Engineering, preferably with optical emphasis
  • Be proficient in one or more software related to optical design and analysis, preferably Zemax
  • Have previous design and analysis of free space optical systems experience
  • Have good awareness of engineering standards (preferably ECSS)
  • Have good understanding of the environmental constraints for flight systems
  • Have experience with lasers
  • Have experience with Python and MATLAB
  • Need to be able to obtain and hold security clearance.
